mini lectures

iAny ideas on mini lectures during a two and a half hour class setting?

Daphne,
Great advice for instructors to follow. This is how you can keep your students engaged.

For a two and a half hours I would space out two mini-lecture of 15 minutes, and have a different activity after each lecture. Also you can use different format of lectures to keep them fully involved and interested, or even combine two or more formats.

I give some class time to complete research. Then we discuss what the class has found. This reinforces the material before we move on.

Tami,
Do a mini-lecture with the key points highlighted for 20 minutes, then have a Q&A session, back to the lecture then another change of pace like small group activities, etc.. The key is to change the pace and flow of the class so the students can "reset" their brains and that will keep them engaged.
