getting students to ask question
Getting students to ask question is very important, but not everyone will, I usely teach with question and then I call it discussion, so this way everyone has an option, so when I see that not eveyone istaking part then I will ask what is your option on the question just asked?
I encourage my students to ask questions and to try during class- I remind them that the classroom is the "safe zone" and within our four walls is the time and place to freely express yourself and your thoughts! After I say this over and over- they will step out of their comfort zones!!

I tried these techniques but still students just sit and stare. Even when I ask a student a direct question, they just sit there. Do you have any other suggestions for me?
Hi Wayne, I suggest dividing the class into teams - maybe only two students in each and have them work on questions together. Susan
