This is a great method in the class, after all it encourages student participation. I will know consider to use the redirection method of it a bit more. Identifying that I don't know and will find out, is something I always do. It make's student have much more appreciation for the teacher.
Hi Darlene, It can really get boring for us, as well as our students, if we do nothing but lecture. As you mention a good questioning session gets things really moving! Susan

I agree! I love this teaching technique. It engages students and creates a great atmoshpere for learning. I have found that I learn a great deal as well through questions because it creates a great discussion that usually brings up even more questions. Makes for a fun and engaging learning environment.
Ms. Steels: I agree totally with your post. Additioally, the question tend to help others students with their concepts and further understanding as well.
I agree, this technique has been quite helpful with me. Before the lecture the reading assignment was given a night before, to ensure the question will be generated; this also encourages reading assignments get done, because they know questions will be asked of them and productive answers will be expected.
Hi Deborah, Thanks for sharing a great idea for involving students in active learning! Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan

I ask my students to create ~10 or so questioms and turn them in. I then randomly hand them to other students to complete. This is not for a grade but a lot of fun!
I always encourage my students to write down questions upon reading any class material. These questions are discussed in class as an open forum. Many times students learn better from each other.
