By implementing the use of various self-assessment tools the student will gain a clearer understanding of how well they have mastered the course content. Also the self-assessment tool enables students to realize their weak areas. This will enable them to focus on and reinforce the areas needing greater understanding/ comprehension. The results of the self-assessment can then be compared to the learning objectives thus helping the student improve and get the MOST out of their educational experience.

Many of the career college students need motivation to help them reach their goals. I believe that a self-assessment can encourage them to continue to go beyond their own expectations to be a successful student. Allowing them to see their acheivments thus far can be very reassuring to those who have poor self esteem.
By using a assessment in my class it allows me to make sure the student is following the subject with the rest of the class

For example, a medical assistant student might feel uncomfortable have had no experience in the field, however if yu ask them if they have evern taken care of someone who is sick or injured, and they say yes, then they can reaffrim that they do have some knowledge on the topic.
If you can tie the self-assessments to actual tasks the students will perform when they start working in their career field, then the self-assesments will not only be effective but also their value will be evident to the student.
Student self-assessments can let the student know where they stand with the material covered, it lets them know the information they need to review or ask questions on.

This knowledge improves delivery and ultimately increased learning.
