Do you find there is a better type of test based on the demographics of the students in your class?

In my experience, I have found that females tend to prefer essay writing as opposed to multiple choice exams. This trend has not been extremely prominent, but it has occurred enough to notice a subtle difference.

I find that women between the of 25-45 seem to prefer essay questions. They have sharper writing abilities.
I am a new teacher and so far I can not pinpoint an exact format that works for all demographics.
