Throughout my experience of teaching, I have had some encounters where students vent about frustrations reflecting campus issues. It is important that they feel heard and supported. If their venting begins to disrupt the class, I have found it useful to initially honor their problem by suggesting their claim is valid, but quickly redirecting the focus on how it can be fixed.
