facilitator
Great word, instead of teacher, lecturer, etc..that is the feeling i strive for: to facilitate my students grasping a basic concept, then being able to use and expand on it
beth,
I too like to use this idea of being the facilitator of their learning, as it helps to put ownership & responsibility back on them.
Dr. Ryan Meers
I teach adult learners and my role as facilitator is to encourage self directed learning. I guide them to discover the correct answers with the critical thinking process.
Esperanza,
yes, this is a great summary of what a facilitator's role really is & how it can be of help to the learner.
Dr. Ryan Meers
Being a facilitator creates a student-centered environment. A student-centered environment helps students to realize that they are accountable for their actions. As a facilitator, it contributes more to enhancing critical thinking in students.
I actually respect and like the word facilitator it makes the student particpate more in the actually learning enviroment
Sylvia,
I agree & the facilitor often is more of a "co-participant" or "guide" in the learning process.
Dr. Ryan Meers
I agree with this, seeing one self as a facilitator may in fact even refocus oneself to understanding the ultimate goal in an accelerated learning facility. Learners need to access this information, and we need to provide it in a way that its easy to understand with out all the research...for the most part that is.
Franklin,
so true! As I heard the other day: "If you think your job is just relaying information, you are obsolete."
