Peggy,
This is where instructors need to be creative in their approach so they can find the key to learning for students that come from different backgrounds or are ELL.

It really never occurred to me that there would be so many learning styles.Understanding the difference in each style and the type of learners I have will help bridge the gap of how I
teaqch/learn to their learning styles.Using things like the radio as background will help some and not effect me!
In understanding the multiple intelligences, I will try to identify the various intelligences of my students, and then tailor my methodologies to each student's specific characteristics.
Gary,
I think through these efforts you are going to enjoy the results you get from your teaching efforts plus your students are going to be engaged and focused at a higher degree.

I agree however I always have a mix and all ages military and others so i try to use all four
Understanding multiple intelligences raises awareness as to the differences between individual learners. When planning for instructional delivery, knowledge of how individuals process information should be kept in mind so as to integrate a variety of approaches/methods into content and delivery in order to appeal to the class as a whole.
Identifying students' dominant intelligences and then grouping students with similar ones will aid learning in the classroom. It may also improve motivation and participation.
Varying course delivery of information has seemed to work with many of my students. Lecture, visual, and activity based formats seem to get most, if not all, involved in their learning.
It lets me understand that there are different ways of learning, which I never knew. I will take into consideration what method of learning my students are more prone to. Getting to know my students will help me in knowing how they learn best and put that into my daily instructions. I can also help them identify which ways they learn best by giving them examples of different learning methods.
Isleen,
Good strategy for expanding your professional expertise and development. I wish you continued teaching success.

first of all to assess correctly the students intelligences ,then to focus on delivering content for the desired result of understanding and learning.
Frank,
What are some delivery methods you use as a result of knowing the learning preferences of your students? Thanks for your input on this.
Gary

Using al 4 categories of learning preferences is of course ideal to teach students, as instructors are able to reach all or most of them with regard to their learning abilities, or preferences. I think that an instructor automatically will use the multiple inteligences to teach and reach students in different ways, as not every subject would be good to be taught a certain way - for example written only. As an instructor in these Career Colleges specific, the importnce becomes the skills of the students. Visual intelligence also becomes of the learning process, as the instructor will have to demonstrate a procedure, or kinesthetic, as the student will be taught how to hold an instrument and guide or work with it.
Florita,
Good analysis of how you are using multiple intelligences. They do seem to flow if one is putting variety into the instructional delivery process.

In teaching culinary arts, kinesthetic and visual learners are at the advantage. In some areas, there are problem solving/ math areas that need to be accomplished to complete the recipes (recipe food costing and conversions). Intrapersonal students are offered the opportunity to work alone on projects and interpersonal students have the chance to work in groups to produce a product. All students need to read recipes, thus enabling students who have that dominant intelligence to excel and those who don't are out of their comfort zone and needs to be able to work through it to be successful.
You must try to incooperate at least 4 learning methods. I agree that in the vocational setting (example Medical Assisiting) the students certainly to best with hands on methods.
Juan,
I totally agree with you. It's like action and reaction. When taught by these methods it's like total recall.
Darryl,
Good point because all of us get put in positions where we are out of our comfort zones. We need to learn how to cope with being out of our comfort zones just as we are doing with the different assignments for our students.

It's affects my teaching method by my lesson plans, i would put in different aspects of learning such as visual with powerpoints, auditory with a sound bite from something, and kinectic by handing out different objects that refer to the lesson being taught.
In each class i taught i had multiple intelligence this is why when ever i discuss any section of the topics i usually ask the least intelligent students if they understand what i have discuss if they say yes i ask them to repeat what i discussed if they say no then i repeat what i had discussed.
