One of my mentors advocated to always be aware of possible teaching moments. After an exam or quiz, we always try to review the answers. It seems to work, because the students want to know their grade. I can quickly try to explain again those topics which the students have not mastered. I can also spend more time during break with those students still not understanding; these students often want some individual time where the whole class isn't aware of their lack of understanding. In the future, I want to try and incorporate some of the strategies presented in this course; I plan on using some of them in their homework assignments.
Peggy,
By being aware that such moments do occur I know you are going to be ready for them and when presented make the most of them. The information shared from these teaching moments are going to be retained by your students for a long time.
