Various methods
I feel that using different teaching styles helps you to gain and maintain student focus.I feel that giving students exposur to various ways of learning keeps them challenged yet excited.
I agree!
I am always wanting to be sensitive to the 'different' type of learners in my Math classes!
My students come day 1 telling me that they hate fractions and hate equations and hate word problems. These are the students that I really focus on! It is my hope that each of these students comes to me and says "wow, I can't wait to take your next level math, or, I can't wait to tell my friend to please have you!"
Some things that I try to do in each class session (i.e., a two hour session) are: self study time, having students come to the board, using the internet, showing how the concepts can be used in 'real life', team projects.
Please tell me other things that you have found to be effective for the different 'learners'! Thank you!

Jim,
I hope you will get some great suggestions from other instructors that teach in the core academic areas. These areas as we all know are critical for student success but are often complained about by students as being of no value. You are showing them that math can be fun to learn and that it has applications at all levels in their lives. Keep up the good work and continue enjoying your students and your field.
