Focus

I have found when allowing students to share some of their personal struggles helps them to stay focused more on the material, becuase they feel as if they are really cared about and respected as a person.

Stacy,
This is the human component of being an instructor and is important in the development of rapport. The connection between student and faculty member will be stronger as a result.

I agree, this method allowed my students to open up and they were able to grasp the material and focus on all assignments. Overall they felt that by sharing some of their life experiences I would see their motivating factor.
