resumes

One method I use to emphasize the validity of my course material is to list skill sets that can be used on a resume from the current class. An activity that could motivate students when experiencing burnout might be to have them create a cumulative list of skills acquired thus far in their training.

Jackie,
Thank you for the strategy you shared. I think this would be a great exercise for them to complete. Students can get bogged down in the middle of a course and forget that they in fact have learned a lot and have developed a set of competencies that they will be using upon graduation. Having them list them is a graphic way to let them see in their own writing how far they have come.

A method that I use in the lab is to have students create several resumes for me using the skills learned. But to also ask questions about things they are not sure about. Trying to fine tune there skills.

Patricia,
Good process to help them see how they can refine their skills in promoting themselves via their resumes as well as their interview skills.

I like that approach. I think students are excited at the beginning because they are thinking about how the course will lead to a career. In the middle of the program they lose that enthusiasm. Working on resumes could reignite their passion about the program.

Christopher,
This is a good idea for helping to jump start the students as they are wearing down at the later part of a course. Thanks for sharing this with us.
