Encouraging to syudents to work together or on the "buddy system" when possible seems to be an effective strategy for retention.

I have had a lot of success with this approach as well. There is always a great deal of respect developed as a result of working together.

The buddy system always works better when an older student can be paired with a younger student in order to assist and encourage each other.
