Sounds like you have gotten more organized over the years Susan. It's nice to take the time to develop an approach that works best for you. Knocking a few quick tasks off the list early is a great approach.

Sounds like a great plan Debbie! It's nice to take just a few minutes at the start of each day to come up with a good plan of action for how you'll accomplish things. Then you can really move forward with confidence.

Sounds like you have the right approach Alphia. It's nice to be able to stay on top of things and feel confident about our progress. At the same time, be careful of falling pray to immediacy as it can lead to some challenges too.

Yes, go ahead and try to slow down Frank. I rarely recommend this approach but immediacy can be a challenging problem and detrimental to ones schedule.

Hello. Dr. Read,

As a preface, I own and manage a business and I teach part-time. I usually always choose to accomplish the most important, urgent, and time-sensitive tasks first. Only in the event of an "emergency" or " major unexpected events" does this change my routine and habit. BTW...I am 21 years old and have over 30 years of experience! (haha)I am pretty well set in my ways! I had very good teachers who taught me what was really important.

I usually try to acomplish as many as possible as soon as possible. It will take baby steps to change old habits, but, my goal is stress free so I am willing to try new ideas

I'm great at doing whats on a list.... when I make the list!!! :) sometimes I get it into my head that I don't need to make a list and thats where I mess up. With this info I will work on making more lists.

I had taken a time management seminar several years ago as part of a management training prograM. I have and continue to utilize the methods personally and professionally. Time management helps to accomplish all that needs to be completed in practical ways

Hi Joan,
The fact you are willing to make an effort is a great step forward. I wish you the best with your stress reduction. I know we all need to work on it in the world that we operate.
Gary

I am pretty good about completing important/urgent tasks on time. I have already implemented the "to do list" tactic into my life. I am just too busy...without it something would be forgotten. I keep a planner that I update on a regular basis and I use the notes area to stay on top of tasks I need to accomplish. I actually already adhere to many of the time management methods outlined in the module. It just makes life more efficient.

I have a Dr note that only allows me 8-10 hrs a day @ school due to my back. I manage tasks, back pain and stress every day, some days basck pain wins, sometimes stress. one thing is for sure, it was the 5 sugeries that causes my back pain not the stresws!!
:)

Hey there , i am currently going to college myself and just had a class on time control and task priority. Most of the info is the same so i have already incorporated it in my daily routines. Works great for the most part !

Based on my schedule I always try to do things on time. Its only when Holidays hit that throws me off schedule a little but I always get things done.

Unfortunately, I tend to put tasks off rather than complete them right away. I am easily distracted and I start multiple tasks without completing one of them. I really like the idea of writing down a to-do list. I think keeping this list will help me tremendously. Seeing items become checked off of the list will give me a feeling of accomplishment. My biggest hurdle will be avoiding distractions such as the television and the Internet. I can use these items as rewards as items are completed on the list.

Hi Jeff,
You are doing a good job of working through the stress of your job with the medical situation you have. By being able to function at all and teach like you do you are showing real spirit. Keep that spirit especially on the days that the back wins.
Gary

I believe I am fairly capable of task prioritization but I did discover that I definitely fall into area described in this module is the Obstacle of Immediacy. I truly never realized that that could be problem as well. I want to accomplish everything right when it needs to be accomplished and as the module described, it can be exhausting. I now understand that this is an issue and that I need to find good time management skills to find that balance between procrastination and immediacy.

Hi Tanya,
I wish you success in your spreading out the accomplishment of your tasks. This is a common situation for us instructors so if we are going to survive we are going to have to be able to create some management skills to enable our tasks to be completed in an efficient way.
Gary

I am very good at making the "to do" list.
Sometimes I tend to be overly optimistic but I usually am able to redirect my efforts so as not to become frustrated.

Periodic assessment and self evaluation helps me to constantly strive for improvement in my efforts

I will start making to do lists and updating them. I already make them but really never thought about updating them weekly.

Diane

Sounds like you have the right approach Diane! Yes, do give regular updating a try if it makes sense based on your workload.
