Make More Time

Work smart not hard. Learn how to multi-task. Monitor your 24 hour day by documenting what you do.

I agree lists and check off sheets are good ways to document work needed and work done so the same job is not started over when work is interupted or make it easier to double check before returning to an interrupted job to finish it.

I would like to add the importance of taking breaks. You need to set tie aside for you. Treat yourself sometimes. One strategy I use is completing work while I commute. It takes me approx. 45 minutes to get to and from work. I grade papers during this time and it allows me more self time when I get home. I think this is an example of working smart and not hard. Not only is my commute faster but I get work done at the same time. What are some time saving strategies some of you use?

Gene, I really love your thinking. Some people would look at their commute in a negative way. You stay so positive about it and make it work for you. Great outlook!

I like the idea of having a designated time to answer e-mails and check voicemail. This might help me etch out some good extra time for grading things and planning things.

Answering a few urgent e-mails seems good too. I believe controlled multi-tasking is ideal. But it is also healthy to focus on just one task at some point in your day. Happy to-do listing!

p.s. Gene, you must take the subway, some other sort of public transportation, or carpool.
