Managing late assignments.
I always tell them in advance ,that late HW will be penalized, and I draw the line up to when I'll be accepting HW.If they have clear directives and yo stick to them ,the students will get the message.
I agree. I think there has to limitations and guidelines they should follow
Hi Julius,
Once limitations and guidelines are established, the instructor needs to ensure that the rules are enforced.

This is the first time I am taking off 5 points for each day that they are late with an assignment. The class just started and already they are nervous about that. I hope that this strategy will work.
I sually give the students enough time to complete and turn in their assignments ,but there is always a couple stranders that will try to turn them in the day of the final.I make sure I notify the entire class the HW rules and specify I will not accdept any late assignmets on the Final Exam Day.Also make sure I notify themm that 10% of the score will be deducted each time an assigment is turned in late. That seems to work for the most of them
Hi Romana,
It will work. I use it with a little tweak, after the fourth day, they receive a zero.

This is key, I have found. You cannot be wishy-washy because students will call you on it. These are the rules and this is how the class works...no matter how sad the story may be. I do explain to students, though, that I cannot help them if they do not communicate with me when there are extenuating circumstances. They need to be honest and up front with me.
That sounds good too. I may use it next time.
Thanks
Hi Lynn,
I agree! You must be consistent across the board. Students watch us closely, and they are waiting for inconsistency on our part so that they can call us on it.
