Identifying the problem

You may be the problem, being humble enough to relize you're the problem is a big advantage to keeping the classroom moving along

Hello Steve,
Wow Steve, isn't it something else when the instructor is the problem. When the instructor is the problem, adjustments must be made quickly.
Patricia

All roads lead to the instructor first. When there is an issue in class, Steve's point is valid. One has to look at one's self as possibly contributing to the problem. Sometimes, students can push our buttons to the point that we may do or say something out of character. And then, that makes us part of the problem. If we remove ourselves from the problem causing issue, we can function independently of the problem and address it in a systematic way.

Hi Norman,
I know it can be challenging, but as an instructor always try to keep your composure. I know from first hand experience how students can push our buttons, but we must always act as professionals.
Patricia

I agree and want to stress that the instructor must monitor and adjust the entire time. Teaching is like having a catch with a ball. You must accurately throw the ball but also need to see and make the catch.

Hi Louis,
What great analogy. Strive to be an effective monitor.

Being able to adapt and correct the problem quickly also plays a big role in class environments.

If an instructor determines themselves to be the problem, they must also find the strength to correct it. That can be a challenge in itself!

Hi Nathan,
If an instructor is the problem, simply make adjustments and move forward. The instructor would expect the student to make modifications, if they were the problem.
Patricia

Instructors are on stage in class and students are ready to have an excuse not to do the work and want other students to join them. So instructors have to be ready at the first sign of conflict to side step and keep control of the class. Using humor is a side step for a student that is trying to put the teacher in a bad light. The center stage type student might be the one that a teacher could use humor on.

Hi Joshula,
As instructors we are always on stage, and we must be ready for any and every thing. We have to be very quick thinkers. It sounds like you have it all together when it comes to control. Keep controlling your students in order to maintain an environment that is conducive to learning.
Patricia

I tend to adapt rather quickly when I need to and in turn this helps to lesson the overall problem.

Hi Danny,
One of the great characteristics of a super teacher is adaptibility. Continue to have such great flexibility as an educator.
