cheater
Some times the cheater gets kicked out of school.
Hello Stu,
If the student is truly a cheater, the student should be reprimanded. Is being kicked out of school your only penalty for cheaters?
Patricia
It depends on the test, a final yes boot them out, quiz etc. give them a zero and have them write a letter to you explaining what they did was wrong.
Hello Stu,
Perhaps, you instituion should adopt a policy on cheating.
Patricia
A cheater is one who does not have Character. Personnal responsiblity or lack there of is enough to have some students try and take the easy way out. In the long run.... they are the ones who suffer.
If caught the punishment should be extreme. That is my belief.
A repeat of that course would be suitable punishment.
Extreme is where it should start. Today, the attitude seems to be 'someone else's fault.' No one is respoonsible for their actions. I spilled coffee on myslef so I should sue the place that sold me the coffee. We need to get back to the idea that a person is responsible for thier own actions. Cheating in my mind is the same as stealing; stealing information instead of goods.
Termination from the program is the only just punishment as far as I am concerned.
Hi Dwayne,
It is ashame people do not want to be held accountable anymore. It is always someone else's fault, simply take responsibility for your actions.
You do think extreme--termination. At the minimum, they should fail the course.
Patricia
I believe that any cheater should be severely punished. Re taking the course or expulsion should be the only penalties. Cheating in class is the same as stealing in the real world, no one should have to put up with it.

Hi Ronald,
You are so on point. Wow, I feel the same way. I have a zero tolerance level for cheating.
Patricia
I feel that the minimum is to repeat the course.
Hi Kris,
Some type of action must be taken. At my institution at a minimum, students must repeat the course as you have indicated.
Patricia
I always make it very clear on what the policy's are and what the outcome will be be if caught. Then there is not a question of whether it is right or wrong.
Hello Chad,
Absolutely, for every choice there is a consequence. If student is caught cheated, they should be held accountable.
Patricia
Well I was put into a situation with cheating on the final exam. Several students were caught with the exam and another Chef Instructor caught them. Little did they know I was advise of the situation. So the day of the final they were given another exam, and were they shocked. At the end of the school year, several of them came to me and confused.
Hi Diane,
Were these students reprimanded for being caught with the Final Exam? Very smart of you to give them a different exam. Sometimes students think they can be smarter than the insructor. We always have to try to be a step a head of our students.
Patricia
Students that cheat only cheat themselves. They are lazy and could care less how they glean the information to pass a course. I have only had one person who I saw cheating and his test was taken from him while others watched, he received a zero for the test and did not have enough points to pass the class. He had to repeat the class at extra expense.
Hello Harold,
He really hurt himself, and you reprimanded him rightfully so. Cheating gets you no where. It amazes me how adults would attempt to cheat.... so sad.

I couldn't agree more, and I applaud you for taking the test away from the student when you saw him cheating. This has to be dealt with directly and quickly - and the penalty needs to be severe. I teach nursing students, and I definitely cannot take a chance that a student passed my course on someone else's merit!
