Role Modeling
I am a nurse instructor so I have to role model what I do in the classroom and in the field. Many times I just want to dress comfortably for the day but I know they watch me every move. they also watch me in the facility so I have to watch what I do as s nurse also.
It is essential to be the person we want them to be. It matters.

Hi Robin,
Great perspective! We are our students role models. We should be the professional that we want our students to become.

Speaking of role modeling and appropriate dress, this is something I struggle with. I prefer to dress casually and do not own any actual business suits. I typically teach class in dark jeans or slacks and a collared shirt or sweater. Do you think that my art and design students lose any respect for me because I put forth a more casual image when it comes to fashion?
Hi Kelly,
I honestly do! I am a suit very conservative type of professional. Students will treat you differently based on your image, just like others will treat you differently based on your image. In addition, my college has a dress code for students and instructors alike, and jeans are unacceptable.
