gen preferences
It is important to realize the method of learning of your own generation from when we were in school to today may be different than the other generations represented in your classroom.
we need to adjust to all learners.
Anthony,
excellent point; along with this we need to be aware of our own personally preferred learning method as we tend to teach this way.

I'm so glad you said that because I was thinking about my boomers generation husband and his personality demands a Y Gen. response. So personality also plays such a huge part of teaching.
I also think that the adjustment needs to happen extremely quick at times even throughout the same day. The good part is trying something new can give you a new method to use.
I agree, and not only has education changed at the school level, in automotive training the methods used for training vary greatly from conventional classroom presentations to on-line applications that are participant driven.
To be most effective we need to know our target audience.
David,
this is a great, short statement that is so important. Who am I trying to reach & how do I best accomplish this?
Ryan Meers, Ph.D.
It is important to understand the different methods of learning from a generational standpoint and to adjust to all learners - I think especially when it comes to Gen Y and in particular older generations going back to school we as instructors have the ability and are encouraged to explore new teaching ideas. I think we are even able to have the learners help with this and determine what works and doesn't. This doesn't mean one is "winging it" in the classroom but just the approach of "let's try something new with this suject or material" and go from there.
