my class

I don not ever try to use technology in my class unless I know how to use it first, lesson learned. I do use my I-pad in my classroom with certain apps that are suited for my medical discussions but to also help the older generations understand that, with some help, they can do it also.

Kathleen,
this is a great rule to follow & practice as it helps us with credibility with our students.

Ryan Meers, Ph.D.

I'm a generation-X instructor in the medical technology field. I tend not to worry about technological distractions in my class because the connectivity that the generation-Y desires comes directly from me. I can wow them much better than any of the gadgets they possess. Actually I access their connectivity need whenever I need additional illustrations or explanations on a particular topic when I ask the student's to google a specific topic/definition.

let them use their cell phone since most ahve that vs computer....use what they have ...move forward...give assignments using technology....the way of the future

Mary Lou ,
it is the way of the future, however the students do need to learn proper use of their tools.

Ryan Meers, Ph.D.

I have a completely different view I use and and I encourage all my students to also. But I am also of the Gen-Y I was born in 84 so I am just as connected to tech as they are. But then again I teach video game design so there is no dodging technology as everything we do in game design revolves around the latest tech advancements.

what ever tools are available to help manage and engage our students is what we should be using if available at your location.

peter,

This so true & I would add make sure you are familiar with the technology.

Ryan Meers, Ph.D.

True, it’s not the technology but the proper use of it in the class room that is challenging.
