yaima,
Microsoft Power Point allows faculty to present using animation, audio and video. This is helpful when you have a classroom with various learning styles. Good luck using technology in the classroom.

My class is the extenship program, and we don't have to much contact with the student on the classroom but we still using the technology as powerpoint program, excell, when we are with them explaining all about the externship program.
I currently use before starting using the board to lecture I play a video containing the material that i am going to teach for example if it is anatomy of the cardiovascular system I will play a video about the heart and then i will lecture about the heart using the board and diagrams on the board to help them grasp the information
Alejandro,
PPT & Excel use allows students to be actively thinking about information, making choices, and executing skills . Moreover, when technology is used as a tool to support students, the students are in the position of defining their goals, making design decisions, and evaluating their progress hopefully with the externship program.

Richard,
Thanks to digital media lectures and videos can go hand and hand to enhance the classroom experience and keep the students more engaged. I wish you much success going forward!

Almost all of our classes use PowerPoint, and most assignments we give have as a required component sourcing materials from an online datebase (The Cybrary). Interesting experience on campus recently: the projectors in many classrooms went out at the same time. Instructors discovered that they could teach without the powerpoint, and those lessons made them better with the slides when the bulbs were replaced.
Michael,
The trend toward technology enhanced classrooms has escalated quickly evolved as students have become increasingly tech-savy. PowerPoint & Cybrary are great tools but as instructor we must make sure we do not sacrifice instructional quality. Good luck in the classroom!

We use powerpoint, audience response. I believe today's students are not impressed with powerpoint, especially if the instructor just reads it. I never see them taking notes onto the handouts. Very passive learning. Adding the clickers have made it more interactive and interesting, but most instructors are uncomfortable with it.
Kathy,
Many student and faculty have become tired of powerpoint but in all a presentation succeeds or fails on the strength of the message and how well it's delivered to the audience. I feel it is a great tool but we must be careful as to how often we use it and defer to group discussion or have the students present to each other.

I teach general sonography therefore, we have several technical equipment that enhance student learning. Our lab have ultrasound machines that the students use in their process of learning how to properly scan patients. In addition, we have two-simulation machines: Simpro (a computerized simulation that students can utilize at home or on campus that guides the students in the everyday process of preparing and scanning patients) and Medsim (a simulation that mimics an ultrasound machine which the students use on campus to practice performing invasive and basic ultrasound examination). These items help the student by familiarize them with the everyday activities of a sonographer and preparing them for the sonography career.
Andrea,
Good that your institution is providing simulation technology. the growth of this technology has made medical education better and more students are getting hands on experience will in school and just relying on internships, textbook and videos. Good luck going forward!

I use YouTube alot in my classes. It helps the students get a full understanding of the subject matter.
We are currently primarily using power point presentations to enhance the learnings. We have a wide range of ages of the students attending my class, so the use of powerpoint has been around long enough and most are familiar with it, so it is the main focus. I have recently been trying to add testing of the students online as an additional technology tool, but some instructors dont seem to embrace it. Sometimes it is very hard to get change in people and see the benefits of utilizing technology.
Vennetta,
YouTube gives teachers amazing flexibility for bringing video technology into the classroom. With YouTube, you can search for any subject and locate videos that are appropriate for the subject matter.

Brian,
Many do not embrace change and students today have been born into technology in the classroom. The classroom is constantly changing-with the increasing popularity of computer technology, it is essential for administrators to support and encourage computer technology in our education systems.

Since I teach in the Information Technology and Office Technology areas, all of the classes that I teach are web-based courses. While web-based courses have their good and bad points, I like the use of simulations because it works well for all learning styles. It has a component that's a teach me/show me feature with hints available; as well as being able to plug in head sets for listening to instructions.
Our program is considering implementing videos of hand instrumentation that students can watch on their own time and at home along with one on one training in the clinic. Students can then be better prepared for their clinic sessions and perhaps have more pertinent questions for their instructors. Quite similar to "flip learning".
Aldgenette,
Simulations have been a key part of training for doctors and military. Many institutions have realized it is a great way to learn and benefits various learning styles as you mentioned.
Antoine Lewis
Victoria,
Students today have many learning styles and videos are a great tool. The students who learn best through hearing (aurally) can find virtual learning useful if there are video clips, virtual lectures, and video conferences because listening and speaking are important for auditory learners. Good luck preparing students for clinicals.

We use power point and a document camera.
