Foodies

We use food as one of the class projects in anatomy. The students choose a system and then create that system using different types of foods. The students are very creative in the food choices. We have had jello respiratory systems, pasta urinary tracts and GI systems made out of cake. The students label their creations with. The best part once graded we get to eat the project.

Holly, this is an environmentally friendly, hands on approach that engages all students. Great job!

I also use this when teaching anatomy. Once, I used jelly ace to demonstrate the consistency of a brain tissue, then I showed them tapioca to demonstrate how a brain looks like when undergoing decomposition.

Venusa, what a great food example! It is hard to get learners to understand that from just a flat picture on a powerpoint slide.

we use play dough and clay and let the students to practice with it.

Meher, practicing with these simple materials is cost effective and efficient learning.

Everybody likes food activities and these ideas sound very memorable!!

I like to use M&M candy to show cells when teaching HIV. It allows for the student to understand how the HIV cells attack the normal white blood cells.
