We have a lot of fun in my class, and I make the class interesting for the new students who arrive monthly. I deliver accurate information and present it in a way the students can relate to for life. The students do activities more than once so it is not given to them just as a one shot wonder, this will be lifelong.
I remember learning in college how the involvement of using multiple senses when learning new concepts significantly increases the learner's ability to retain the information. It made such an impression on me that I talk about this with my students at the beginning of the quarter, and I develop lessons that allow the students to involve different senses and emotions.
I agree with you. Also, a wise teacher knows that he does not know everything and that his students knows some things that he does not.

Medical terminology can easily become boring if the teacher does not keep the student ACTIVE in the learning process. I believe that utilizing the VARK approach will keep the class and material more interesting for the students and actively involved, and thus, allowing the students to learn and retain more knowledge.

I definitely believe that a teacher must first consider himself a lifelong "student/learner," as this will help keep him centered to his students' perspectives to needs.
Larry
Yes because it can be dry content that is foreign to most learners, we must plan our teaching strategies to keep it interesting.
Keeping your students involved is the key to success, Larry. If you keep the attitude of a learner it will make you a better teacher.
When it comes to Medical Terminology you love to see lightbulbs. It is a subject that needs all of the directed advice.
Jon, if you live by your resolve to learn from your students, you will become a better and better teacher through that interaction.
I would like to be a learner in my own classes because I want to be a life-long leaner. If my classes are able to excite me so as I learn something new, or to a greater depth, than I must be doing a pretty good job involving and exciting my students, thereby, helping them to learn more.
I never want to stop learning, and having the opportunity to share something extra with my students is marvalous.
I would want to be a learner in my class because i try to keep things fun and fresh. Students respond to an atmosphere thats enjoyable as opposed to the old sterile enviroment.Let them be themselves. We can learn from them as well.
I agree. When we see the student celebrating their success when they might have doubted their ability is indeed what makes teaching worth all the time and effort.
Patricia, you and I must be teaching the same hands on/visual learners. Keeping them involved is the key.
Patricia, the best instructors I know are always looking for new and better ways to teach. You are on the right track knowing you can learn from your mistakes and successes.
Jennelle, if you use those three methods, I'd like to be a learner in your class, too. Many instructors think that if fluff, but it is essential for learning to occur.
I am with you! When I see students "eyes light up"--I feel they just got the idea and now we can put it all together as a class. It does make it fun for everyone. Most students I have are hands-on/visual
For me to be a learner helps me --be a better student as well. There is nothing wrong with learning new ideas and getting feedback in order for an instructor to improve skills.
I have to think as a student would? Would I like the presentation being given? or fall asleep? Nothing wrong with be a learner in my own class, so I can learn from my mistakes and make improvements.
I would like to be a learned in one of my classes because they are fun. I once read that people learn through repetition, association, and humor. I utilize all 3 of these methods in my classes to make it more fun and interesting for the students.
