Our textbooks come with cd- roms that I make homework assignments through out the class!

That's my next step, getting into the CD-ROM to see what's in there and create some fun homework for my students.
I utilize my CD-Rom all the time for the spelling challenge. I also encourage my students to use their online access from the text to play the games. The ones that do so are the ones who have the highest grades. This encourages those that have not used this tool to do so as well; and sure enough their grades improve.
Whenever we look at a word that is very similar to another one, I will bring them both into the discussion. At that time we can all together discuss some tricks to help remember the difference.
Spelling is something I always stress with my students. No matter how complicated the word, if it will be used in their chosen profession I will always stress the importance of being able to spell it correctly, as well as proper pronunciation. One of the areas I also stress is professionalism. I feel very strongly about making good impressions no matter if it's at the interview level or for a promotion and the proper pronunciation and spelling will give them a edge over the competition. It has always worked for me.
Phyllis, these are two of the important P's (pronunciation and professionalism) which is demonstrated with proper spelling. Three great topics to stress.

I agree. I try to stress to my students how important spelling and pronunciation are when utilizing medical terminology in this profession. In a potential employer, or actual employer situation, if you do not know the correct terminology, it can be detrimental. It is difficult for me to emphasize this without my students feeling like I am being a stickler or nit-picky!
