Games
My class enjoys playing two different games with terminology words. We have Anatomy Jingo which is a game board set up as a bingo card with different pictures of the anatomy. Questions are then asked relating to one of the systems. The first person to get "bingo" wins.
We also play the old game "hangman" with terminology words. I let the student that wins go to the board and set up the spces for the next terminolgy word. They really enjoy both games.
Holly, I use bingo but have not tried putting pictures on the bingo sheet. Thanks for the idea. I will try it.

I found Jeopardy to be a good learning tools for student. The students are given the answer, so they feel by having the answer the question should be much easier.
I agree with Holly that hangman and bingo are also good option, but the students really become energized because they are getting the answer. i have not figured the rationale for the students but it is a great learning tool for each chapter, or a great review for for more than one chapter,

I also use the old game hangman, which is very effective. I also use the disk of games available in a Medical Terminology book I used and found it very helpful and a fun way to learn.
I love the hangman Idea! I am going to use it this week in class. My class loves learning games and opportunities to show off their knowledge! Thanks
Yes Holly that is a good idea, I haven't tried pictures
I also found Jeopardy as a good learning game. I have the students make up the questions for each topic. It allows everyone to be involved.
Joseph, I agree that Jeopardy is a popular and successful classroom strategy.

One of the games I came up with for this course last time I taught it was the Memory Game.
I played this as a kid, finding the 2 apples in a bunch of cards that are face down., But instead of finding fruit, the students try to match a medical term to its meaning.
It seems to be very helpful since the students see the terms over and over, then repeat the meaning that they are looking for until all matches are found. A
I agree. if you have Smart Boards in your school it allows for the student to get up and be interactive with the game and allows them to feel more involved.
Make Me a Match Card game is a game that I can incorporate in my lab. As the students are introduced to new functions and knobs on the machines they can play this game afterwards and it will help them to remember what the knobs and functions do.
Carlos, I'm glad you applied this to your lab content. I wouldn't have thought of matching knobs and functions, but that sounds like a way to make that critical content memorable.

Tina, I really like using the Jeopardy game as well. It makes the students really think about the answer because they have to answer in a question.
Those all seem like great ideas to make learning the material fun, interactive and effective.
