Crosswords
I think crosswords are a good idea for open book quizzes.
They work hard to find the correct words and if they are wrong they are still learning!
Christine, if one gets an answer wrong, it is possible to remember that correct answer even better the next time one is asked the question.

I agree. I have to admit that I have not practiced this in any of the classes that I have taught but after seeing the benefits of this exercise, I think it is going to be an activity that I am going to implement going forward.

I give crossword activities from the student's workbook as an assigned activity. I give them a grade for completion of activity. This helps them realize that the older adult may enjoy crossword puzzles to pass the time as well. I teach nursing assistant for long term care facilities. It connects the student to the location that they might be working in as well.
donald, I like that you have connected the learning activity to the age of the future clients of your students.
