New puzzles and game ideas

I already use word puzzles in my classes as a type of learning tool, while creating an activity for class time. The students seem to enjoy them, especially the crossword puzzles because they do require a little more thinking, and that allows them to interact and help each other. I would like to try the Make me a Match game, both in groups and as a class. I think they would be more excited and involved about learning medical terms. I may have to use the idea to create an organ vs. function type of match game for my anatomy class, as well. I am definitely benefiting from all of these great ideas, which will help me make my students happy.

Thank you for the idea. I would also be able to use these in the clinical setting as a post-conference idea.

I used charades, drawing hints, and hangman in my classes. The students thrived and enjoyed themselves! I am so thankful for these ideas to incorporate into my classes!

I agree! Anatomy organ / function make me a match on the white board is a great idea. You can laminate each card and place a magnet on the back and it'll stick to the white board (and you can use again and again).

I am learning so much from this course - just what I needed to continue MY process of becoming a BETTER instructor!

I use a game to review skeletal anatomy. The class is divided, two teams. Each team in turn draws a card out of a basket. {Cards have a bone, bone marking or joint name.} As a team they must identify the correct bone or joint on a skeleton in a minute time limit. If the team is incorrect the other team can steal the point. This can get quite competitive and is very effective to produce long term memories for complex stuctures.

Oh! Hangman is a great idea, as it brings such great memories from childhood back. Spelling is definitely emphasized in this game which is great!

When teaching the Gastrointestinal System, I play BELLY bingo. Instead of B,I,N,G,O heading the rows, I use B,E,L,L,Y. As soon as the students see that, they are immediately excited to play.
