Feedback

Aside from using your knowledge and textbook to provide feedback, what other resources or methods have you found to be helpful in providing meaningful feedback?

Keisha,

I use Jing (a desktop/voice recording software) to have students' assignment up on the desktop and make edits/comments while recording my voice. This way they can see the edits and also hear my voice explaining the good and bad (using constructive criticism). Students love it.

Hi Keisha,

Aside from my knowledge and the textbook, I have found that my colleagues and professional development/training opportunities have given me a great amount of assistance with providing meaningful feedback. Although many of us have been in this field for some time, it is always refreshing to hear ideas from others through workshops and even small group sharing in order to upgrade what you've been doing all along.

One training that was helpful in sharpening writing instruction that I took at Columbia University was amazing because not only did it focus on the obvious area of teaching writing, it also provided extensive training in quality feedback. I learned those strategies 6 years ago and I still use them.

Paula

Paula and Keisha,

Please share some of those strategies with us. This would be excellent resources for everyone.

Thank you.
