Training Employees

McDonald's in Japan uses games to train new hires and says it cuts new-hire training time in half. Search the Internet to locate an example of a company that uses games to train employees. What real-life examples can you find of games and simulations being used for training employees?

Not exactly a company, but the military has been using games for decades to train soldiers. Part of my own rifle training in the Army was down on a computer simulator that simulated a combat environment and measured my reaction time and accuracy.

Ron,

Yes, the military has been using games for decades and so has NASA. The information on reaction time and accuracy is an important skill. Most of the games address the skill level of a learner but little on the feelings and psychological reactions. I was looking for an example of a company here but you did provide an appropriate example.

Dr. Karen Drage

Airbus uses flight simulator to training pilots on new planes and also show new procedures and flight controls. The new airplanes like the the Airbus a350 has a joystick but a lot of the flying gets done thru a keyboard and the onboard computer.

Also Sims are used in sports like Formula 1 and even NASCAR to teach the drivers the tracks and test settings for the car.

As a real life example of simulations, I developed am elearning class for nurses to take to learn the safe handling a sharp for drawing a blood sample and then its safe disposal. The simulation allows them the use the mouse to place the left hand in the correct position to bring out the vein , they then can use the mouse to place the sharp in the correct angle to draw the blood and concludes with their application of the safety cover prior to safe disposal. The simulation was well received.
