Someone below already posted this, but asking those 'probing questions". When a student discovers what they want in life, what they have a passion for, they will work that much harder to reach their goals.
At the present time we feel our program is suffient to provide students, with receiving a certificate the best opportunity for job placement
We have all student complete an orientation before they can inter class to ursure they are ready to start classes. We also make sure that their computers are set up for our online classes.
We have always had adequate admission requirement, 90/10 did not effect that. What 90/10 did change for my institution is the student contact. We have better relationships with our students because we want to be sure we are able to help them reach their goals.
Admissions alone is not going to improve the graduation and placement rates... Everyone has to get involved.
Problems with math seems to be the biggest reason our students drop out, so we identify any problems before they start, and try to correct it. Since our program involves a lot of hands-on training, students usually know if they like this kind of work, either through past schooling or experience.
Our students take a Wonderlic before enrollment
Amanda,
It definitely takes dedication and involvement by all staff members to assist students in being successful.

no, we have not altered admission requirements. However, we do make sure that all instructors have posted office hours. we also have online tutors available and a career services that helps the student find the career they are looking for upon completion of their degree.
Our school has institued an entrance test tto ensure the potential student readiness for post-secondary education.
We make sure that all students/prospective students can see graduation and placement rates on our website at all times.
Our school has the prospective students sign documents that state the graduation and placement rates for each specific program.
We stress the importance of graduating not just starting school for the students benefit. It's about helping students change their lives, not just getting them started in school.
Robert,
Having students sign a disclosure stating they have received the graduation and placement rates is layer of protection for the school if a student ever tried to claim they didn't receive the information.

Casey,
You are correct, it is not just about getting them in the door. It is important for all agents to realize this.

We also go over the enrollment agreement so that hopefully the student understands the changes.
Yes, our prospective students now also meet with our director prior to enrolling. Our director makes sure we covered all the bases as well as asking some additional questions in terms of the students desire, dedication, and determination to complete the program. Picking the prospective students brain to make sure that this is in fact what they want and making sure that their is nothing that is going on in their lives currently that could prevent them from finishing school.

Michael,
It sounds like your school has a very thorough process to assist in making sure a student will be successful.

I don't think grad/placement rates had much to do with this but we have always strived as an organization to do what is best for the student. We don't prejudge students and prevent them from enrolling just because they have obstacles that they must overcome. We do our best to give everyone a fair shot and to give everyone an opportunity to enroll into college. Post-enrollment, it is our job as a college to prepare them to start college, provide the tools and support needed to succeed, and the guidance in seeking employment after graduation.
Yeah, we require wonderlic scores based upon the program of interest and that can be a deciding factor for enrollment too.
