It was interesting that people skills were more important than product knowledge
I've learned attitude and mirroring are really important when communicating with others.
In this module I learned that attitude is 50% of the essential skills when talking to students.
Learning how to prioritize student's needs and making connections with them is essential to creating a good bond.
The importance of the communication hierarchy and attitude when interacting with students is eye opening. Making sure that you are not jumping steps in the hierarchy and doing it with a positive attitude can make all the difference even if you are extremely knowledgeable about the school.
How to pay attention to my body language and ensure that it doesn't give the wrong impression, your body language speak louder than your words.
I have learned about the different steps of effective communication. I intend to use mirroring when talking to my students.
This module really drives home the idea of focusing on body language and how much easier it is to have rapport with the student when you do so.
I didn't realize how much mirroring or matching body language, speed, tone, etc. can have an impact. As I reflect on some of my interactions with coworkers, I can pinpoint who I have better rapport with just based on our conversations and body language. It's really quite interesting and says a lot!
I found it interesting that 50% of success when promoting or selling a product or service revolves around attitude, yet only 10% involves product knowledge. As someone new to the job, this actually made me more comfortable, as I have more good attitude than product knowledge at the moment.
Our attitude is what is going to determine in a great way how the conversation with our students is going to go. In what direction.
It's interesting that sales skills and product knowledge are such a small part of the essential skills of communication. This is good news for me because I naturally have a good attitude and people skills.
People skills and active listening go hand in hand; they also exceed the amount of impact one can have with accurate program information and sales skills.
I understood the listening skill section and had 100% but the final quiz with sales, people, attitude, and product knowledge took me several tries. I best understood the importance of the connection which is accomplished through listening. The listening questionnaire made me re-evaluate the way I listen. Fact finding and I even stop listening if I know what the other person is going to say. I will work on these issues.
It is mind blowing the percentage amount for attitude, and how it compares to the percentage amount for product knowledge and sales that an individual will need to possess to have a successful connection and/or confident conversation with an individual in this industry.
Great insight on just remaining positive, encouraging and always being positively solution oriented.
