The rewards of honesty
What have been some of the positive experience you have had when counseling students?
Its such a good feeling to see someone develop into a true professional. I've had students go out of their way to come back to the school just to tell what they're are doing now and how happy they are.
For me, in particular, was my student that spoke at the graduation ceremony and admitted that he had been sleeping in his van right outside the school the entire time he was attending. Needless to say that it was a pretty emotional night.
It quickly turned into a celebration when he told everyone that because of the opportunities that became available through the school, he is now earning a very nice six figure income. That was my proudest moment doing this job.
The most positive experience for me is any time I can help a student make an informed decision because I have been 100% honest with them. Even if the student's decision is to attend a different school, at least I was able to get them the information they needed to make the best choice for themselves and their future.
My husband and I always say... a happy student is our pay check!!!
