I've been in your situation. Adding someone who solely focuses on default prevention efforts can make a world of difference in this arena. And, we all know how important default prevention is in our world of Financial Aid and the ability to continue in being eligible to offer aid to our students.

I don't find our Business Office practices to be outdated. Everyone in the office is very much on top of things and aware of what we need to do in order to best serve our students, and vendors.

Jason, With the changes that have taken place regarding new regulations and the desolution of FFEL in the last couple of years, there has been extra work and responsibilities placed on a school's business office, both from a day-to-day operational standpoint to a reporting standpoint. Therefore, it is so important to have in place good internal standard operating procedures to ensure nothing falls through the cracks. Good luck in your online studies.

I do not think they are out dated. it is a system that we have to work within to stay compliant with regulations. Though sometimes it is a lot of work, as long as you have a routine for each student the system works

In our college we keep the processes in our business office all up to date. We require that our staff be constantly updating their professional development, and our college is always on top on acquiring up to date technology and methodology that helps our staff and students throughout the process.

Are the delays set in a way that you can easily translate this to your students. I have found that most students just want to know the accurate information and understand that geographical locations may impose some minimum delays.

Going through the accrediting process is an exercise that will allow you to identify areas of strengthen and weaknesses. If you and your team evaluate areas that need improvement and develop a plan to make these improvements as you more forward with growth you should have a solid approach. It is critical that you continue to look for methods and procedures that will keep your financial aid and business office processing efficiently to insure compliance and students' satisfaction.

Currently, our school is in the process of being accredited, and taking this course for my benefit and to be in compliance with the Board of Education. Somethings that need to be updated would be to implement half of the things i just learned about, so we can have a solid financial aid office.

You are certainly leading the way. Also, I understand how frustrating this may be at times; however, your team will have to continue to influence change with your success. Over the years I have had the pleasure of seeing the Financial Aid proces move from paper to electronic means with students embracing the process. It is exciting to part of change.

We are the only online campus in a larger group of 20 campuses, the other 19 campuses all being ground campuses. This means that essentially we are not only the squeaky wheel in our system, we are also the flagship for technology. I have found that the technology we utilize at the online campus is, in most ways, more advanced than what is being used at the other 19 ground campuses and oftentimes, than what is being used at our corporate office which governs all 20 of our campuses. This can be a frustrating situation. We seem to have the same conversations where they ask me for paper-based information and I tell them everything is online! I am hoping that as the most technologically advanced campus in our system that we can spearhead movement in a more technologically driven direction in the future.

I am glad the post were helpful to you in reviewing the comments on Business Office. It is important when you enter into the TIV that you set up good strong procedures. It is easier to get the set up ready at this size instead of waiting until you are larger and it is more difficult to change gears.

we are a small school and was just approved to become a title IV school. we are still in the getting our ducks in a row, in reading some or the replys I have found this here very helpful

It is important as the school grows that you are aware of the need to continue to improve the processes in the Business Office with technology. When you start out in a small school you have the ability to design the processes as needed. All improvements in process and technology should provide better service to the students and allow the staff to reach their full potential.

In my school the Business office is doing the best they can with the technology provided to them. We are a small school so I believe with technology chaging rapidly the Busines Office will improve eventually. So we can have a better service to our staff and students.

Your team should look into the online counseling tools provided by the DL website. These tools may provide you with some ways to update your current process.
