IRS Data Retrieval

What has been your students/parents' experience with the IRS Data Retrieval? Do you believe this has been a beneficial process for most of your students?

I love the IRS Data Retrieval. I would get so many calls from students and parents with questions on which numbers to put where and why. I rarely get questions any more and all of the feedback that I get from parents/students is positive. It's normally them telling me how easy the application process was.

Ana ,

Great news for you and your students. It is good hear that this enhanced feature is a benefit to your students in the application process. As our student populations become more and more technology knowledgeable the better these types of enhancements will be for the students.

Thanks for sharing this feedback.

Sincerely,

Chyrl Ayers

We have had positive feedback from our students and parents regarding the IRS data retrieval tool. Especially, if either the student or parent have completed a FAFSA in the past prior to the introduction of the tool. The students like the technology and the parents appreciate the convenience.

Bryan,

Also, good feedback. Within our organization we are getting the same type of feedback. It would be great if all students and parents could use this process; however, that is not possible. It certainly benefits the ones that can utilize it.

Sincerely,

Chyrl Ayers

The IRS Data Retrieval tool is really nice. In the past both students and parents were very confused about what information went where on the Fafsa. The data retrieval tool makes the doing the Fafsa alot easier and less stressful.

Afton,

I think your point is right on the mark. The more the system is able to perform for the student/parent the more successful the process will be. It is a great tool to assist and eliminate confusion.

Chyrl Ayers

THE IRS DATA RETRIEVAL HAS BEEN BENEFICIAL FOR THE STUDENTS TO USE, THEY ARE NOT CONFUSE ON WHICH INFORMATION THEY SHOULD BE INPUT ON THE CORRECT LINE OF THE FAFSA.

sharita,

I think most of us agree with your comment on how beneficial the IRS DRT has been in the FOTW process. The ability for students and parents to retrieve this information expedites the process and confirms the accuracy of the information.

the IRS DRT has been great. Students and parents have been able to get more done during their appointments and it has greatly reduced the number of errors. Also, it has reduce the need to contact the IRS for transcripts

Christopher,

All of the participants to this forum have commented on the benefits on the IRS DRT to both students and parents. This process seems to assist the students and reduce errors. It is great to have this opportunity to prevent errors in the process.

I agree I love the IRS Data Retrieval. This has made the process of verification so much better. There are few if any corrections when it comes to the income section and phone calls from student's and parents. With this process we don't have to wait for tax transcripts. The only down fall is when IRS Data Retrieval is not linking up with the students or parent's information then we get the phone calls. But this has been an asset to me For the Financial Aid Department.

Regina,

This has pretty much been the consensus of the participants to this forum regarding IRS Data Retrieval. It has really provided a timely way in which to compare ISIR information to tax information.

Yes very beneficial because it helps prevent's students fom making a mistake of inputting the wrong income data, which help's eliminate a lot of correction's.

The IRS Data Retrieval has been great for my students and they have benefited greatly. Most of my students love to know what they are eligible for as soon as possible so, not having to wait for 5-7 days to receive their transcript in the mail to complete their FAFSA has been a great plus.

Garnett,

IRS DRT has been beneficial with the accurate reporting of tax information. Do most of your students select the IRS DRT or does your FA Office have to encourage this activity?

Mazoe,

I think most of us in the FA Community recognize the benefit that IRS DRT has brought to the overall process and the reduction in collecting documents related to verification.

For the most part I am very pleased with the IRS data retrieval process. As the process becomes more mainstream, verification should become much easier. One problem some of my students have had is when they are not sure how they should enter their address into the IRS data retrieval request form. An error in address causes the IRS to refuse the request. Another problem involves the non-delivery of the tax transcript. Although the timeframe is supposed to be a short period of time, some of my students have had to order the transcript more than once.

Donn,

Other participants agree with your on the effectiveness of the IRS Data Retrieval process; however, they do have issues with students' prior calendar year addresses. Many students (and parents) move and do not remember the address they used when filing in the prior calendar year. In the long run the IRS DRT has improved the process from many students and parents.

Yes, i believe that the implementation of the IRS Data Retrieval Tool has been beneficial for the verification process making it simpler and faster for students, parents and FAAs. I remember many occations when the students cound not locate their tax forms...:(. The response from the IRS to make the transcripts available to the students have been relatively positive in our school considering it's a new and masive task for the IRS. There has been only a few instances however, where the students will need to call a second time to request their transcripts.
