I've learned about motivational interviewing and stages of change. I've also learned about career support applications and the importance of it. Overall, the material has taught me how to be even more successful in helping others in the academic and clinical setting.
Learning how to equip students with the skills they need to make smart decisions. Also instilling the time to explore a student's values, goals, and interests can help a student recognize their own patterns of behavior and possibly motivate them to make better choices in the future.
I have learned I am not as good at Motivational Interviewing as I thought. It has been too long since I had a refresher on this. Working with ambiguity could really assist in my efforts to retain students who lack an inherent motivation for their program.
