Differences in retention rates with traditionally male/female programs

I work at a trade school which services traditionally male and female trades (welding, HVAC, Electrician vs. Cosmetology, esthetics)and find that the reasons for withdrawing for school tend to fall into two categories, most the of the necessary withdraws are family related especially in the female dominant trades.

Hello Cambria: I believe your statement, but I do see a growing trend of males being the responsible party for family issues. However, because woman typically take care of their children; sadly, they are the ones who drop-out.

The statements are so true. Being on both sides,as an Instructor and as a student at one time, allows me to be able to help in a professional way. I can help motivate with words!
I understand being a mom and going to school. Some people were not taught how to way options.

The pastry program at my culinary school is mostly women and I find that even though we loose a few to various family situations. they have an amazing ability to bounce back after missing classes. Occasionally I find myself in awe of their ability to juggle so many different parts of their lives. I think many of them are used to it and therefor have the ability to overcome many obstacles if they really want to succeed

Nancy, does this gender concentration suggest any specific retention related activities¿ Do you find a greater sense of commraderie¿
