The 3 Ms
I know that I myself respond very well to positive feedback from others, praise or 'good job', but was raised with critism and find myself thinking critically. It is something I have found I need to watch with my students.
Kathryn,
It is important to be consciously competent of the need to offer praise. Catch students doing something correct as often as possible.

Some of our students come from such diverse background that we as educators need to look past the front they put on and see the real person inside. The 3ms I try to practice with my students, but this course shows me I need to be more in tune with my students, especially the difficult ones.
Laurel,
The difficult students often are the students that give us the greatest rewards as educators.

I agree with you about difficult students will be the most challenge but when they do succeed we as instructors feel like we have made a difference to them. I really believe that by finding something about the student to help them see their future is very important. We do have to do the 3 M's and they do have an impact. At first, we may not see the impact but down the road in the career course, a student will show that it made a difference. Sometimes it takes the whole program and then at graduation the student sees the difference in their education. we are working with such a diverse group of students and I do see the difference in repetition!
Carol,
You summed up the challenge and the reward for meeting the challenge. Thank you.
