Process

Becoming a successful instructor is not a skill that can just be handed to you. It is something that is developed over time. Classes always have different personalities so instructors need to change or presentation and style to adapt to the uniqueness of the class. I am always excited to get started with a new group just to observe the personality.

Hi Kimberly

I have found that to be true every semester.  I also have found that I can't use the same plan for each class for the same reason.  One group may have a good understanding of the information while the other group needs more hand holding.  I still love it!!!

It is important to tailor your instruction to the dynamics of the group.  Although the information to be presented may be the same, each class has it's own "feel" and the instructor must react and change to facilitate learning.

I agree about instructors need to change and adapt to the different personality of each group. need to add new ideas to my lesson plan where I am not doing the same old thing and then getting the same results.

As an instructor with just 3 years experience, I find I need to change my lesson plan not only to accomadate students, but to learn new things myself. There are many changes in the field of medicine, and knowing what these are helps me to be better educated and to be a better educator.

I agree with Deb. I have been in the classroom for well over 10 years now and still change things up to keep up with new technologies and to keep from getting stale, which students can sense a mile away.

I also learn a lot from my students through the questions they ask. Especially the ones I have to get back to them on. Have to admit, I actually like it when a student stumps me.
