Converting to online
I have taught for 25 years in a traditional classroom. The last 6 years I implemented a website classroom to supplement the traditional classroom, but I had not taught completely online. Converting from a traditional classroom to an online classroom has the same components of a course with differnent advantages and disadvantages. There is so much more technology can offer to the individual learner. Differentiated instruction and multi-sensory learning is easier to develop and implement online for students of all learning styles. However, an ill-constructed online courses leaves room for less than rigorous learning.
While good design in the course content is crucial, even the best designed course will fall flat if the instructor is "absent". We monitor weekly engagement activity and provide a scorecard of all majors so that instructors know that being engaged in the class is vital and is being monitored.
I am always surprised that even though this is a standard at our school, there are still some faculty that might only post once or twice in a week with 14 students in the course!
our institution recently begain e learning as part of the curriculm some of the challanges are student can not seem to follow direction and taking the nessesary time to absorb the material.
