I usaually use the 5-1 method. When 5 students post I post something in response by asking open-ended questions.

That is the ratio I try to adhere to as well although I struggle with it from time to time. What 'tricks' do you use to remind yourself to respond? I wish the LMS would send and email to the instructor after a few student posts had been submitted.
That is an excellent ratio, and it is my minimum. I also post articles and blogs in each unit that could be of interest and of course industry the news related to particular unit.
