Do you learn by teaching others

I am always amazed at just how much I learn from my students. My area of specialty id Nephrology Nursing. Therefore, when I have students in many disciplines within our profession, it intrigues me just how different yet similar our profession can be. Loved to hear your thoughts as well.

Technology Plays Role in online Educationa Programs

Technology plays a critical role in creating an engaging online student experience. In particular, technology influences one’s ability to adequately interact with students and be responsive to their needs. With the proper systems in place, institutions will be better equipped to meet online students’ needs and support retention efforts.

Student retention is indeed an important fact and it helps the school to provide that student with the online technology in order to be successful in obtaining the educational goal they want to acomplish. Online technology helps to prepare them to obtain the job they desire after successful completion of the required courses and other requirements necessary to work in the profession they have choosen.

Introverts

Introverts are often defined negatively: "shy, socially withdrawn, and tend to talk less." I belive this is the case because extroversion is idealized by American culture. What could be positive attributes of introverts? For example, they might be "socially withdrawn" in some situations but thrive in smaller social groups.

  3. Respectful comments are allowed.

Ideas to increase and ensure high levels of student engagement

A few ideas that I suggest woulde be provide timely and useful feedback, have guest speakers join your class on Zoom, provide active learning opportunities. have students express their own personal exprience related to the topic and share with peers. I also would give a 5-10 minute break not one that is to long.

How would you effectively make suggestions when students are constantly working behind schedule?

Would anyone have suggestions or ideas of how to effectively make recommendations to students who are always working behind & not meeting the deadlines? (particularly when there are assignment due dates & deadlines)

Code of Communication Conduct

In my Marketing Class, we have a beginning of the semester activity where we develop a Class Code of Conduct - we brainstorm in small groups then bring all ideas together for the class to then develop this Code.  It is printed out and everyone signs it, making a commitment as a class to follow the Code.  Even in a virtual setting, this could be developed in this manner - with Instructor guidance.  What do you think?

Retention

Do anyone have any ideas on to help retain students in distance learning classes?

When asking questions to initiate conversations...

Sometimes my students will go quiet and I can't get them to engage in the conversation. Any thoughts on a better way to get the discussion started?

Engaging Learners

Online Learners

How do you keep online learners engaged?

Techy?

I learned that we must determine the technology skill levels of each student. We cannot assume that they have even the most basic skills, such as how to upload a file, when we are getting started. The use of social media can be a way to engage students in a real world form of learning if they have the social and communication skills necessary to communicate in that media. We must evaluate their skills prior to adding that to the course.

Accessible

What is your favorite tool or trick to ensure that your course is meeting Accessibility?
