Activity

This module provided many technology options and ideas for various activities.  Some of them I have heard of, but others were new to me.  I intend to try some more technology options in my classes.  Project-based learning is a helpful way to integrate learning as students can solve real world issues and apply their knowledge.  This can be used with a simulated workplace, which can be set up to run like a real world business.

This module discussed how to plan with a purpose. Planning tools include; a curriculum map, syllabus, unit plan, and lesson plans.  Included within these are goals and objectives along with scope, sequence, and pacing.  A curriculum map helps to organize the content and the module reminds us of two important parts: 1. this should be a living document that is updated regularly and 2. mulligans or do-overs are necessary.  I intend to continue to incorporate the I do, we do, you do, modeling strategy as well as work on alternative ways to check for understanding, such as thumbs up or… >>>

I like how the module focused on beginning with the end in mind.  Often, I can see myself being overwhelmed thinking that way, but in actuality, it provides direction and clarity instead.  I always like learning about ways to differentiate instruction.  It can be easy to get into a groove doing the same things over and over again, so it is really important to be mindful of alternative ways to differentiate instruction while keeping students engaged.  Including various forms of assessment is important and this is something I intend to continue to work on with my students.  I hope to… >>>

This module provided a reminder about the importance of setting goals, objectives, and outcomes and how to write them.  I also liked the inclusion of Bloom's Taxonomy and the three domains of learning: cognitive, affective, and psychomotor.  I really like the idea of using rubrics and scoring guides to assess student skills in various categories.  I would like to incorporate this as well as add in self and teacher reflections as part of the learning process.

Training and safety are very important.  I like the layout and information provided about various safety options as well as the auto class example given to bring awareness.  I did not know that the CDC has an entire booklet on CTE safety and training.  I intend to print it off and read through it.

I worked in social work for almost 16 years, so being trauma-informed is not a new concept.  However, it is important to have regular reminders and information on how to be trauma-informed.  I really like the PBIS strategies and interventions page.  I intend to use this when I feel stuck or need some alternative ideas when dealing with my students.

I really like the advisory committee information.  I also appreciate the mentor information.  I intend to continue seeking a mentor for me due to my unique position in the CTE environment.  I am a special education teacher and I have not found a sped teacher specifically in a CTE yet.  If you know of one, I would love to reach out to them.

I have learned about some new acronyms and I am thankful for the lists provided in the module.  I was also reminded that it is okay to share some information about myself to remind my students that I do have a life outside of the classroom.  I tend to be a very private person and only talk about work at work.  I intend to share a little bit more about myself with them during our "family time."

I have learned about the history of CTE and I have a better understanding of the career clusters and subclusters.  I also learned about the 12 elements of high quality CTE, which includes program evaluations.  I intend to better understand the 12 elements and better understand the self-evaluation process to improve myself as well as our programs.
