Scaffolding; an amazing tactic I now know has a name for it! Students aren't receiving an education on their own. They need some assistance and guidance to stay on the right path to success (graduating). Intances where scaffolding and mnemonics are used can be highly beneficial to the students passing a course AND retaining the information for future use.

Utilizing pre-tests is a great way to guage the student's position during the very beginning of a course. It also is good for the instructor to tailor course content and position themselves to spend more time on certain subject matters that the class as a whole need some more attention to, based off of the results of the pre-tests.

I've learned that tailoring the course content to the learning styles of the STUDENTS and not just of the instructor (me), is more beneficial to their education. Providing instruction to the vast majority of the learning styles of the students will create a more welcoming and engaging

This subject provides a better understanding of how the brain functions, retains, stores and applies information. From a students point of view but can also be applied to the instructors point of view as well.

Each an every type and style of test has a function in providing an educational assesment of how the student(s) are doing in their courses. One is not more important than others but each has it's pros and cons nontheless. Utilizing a full range of testing types will gauge a more accurate result of the student's strengths and weaknesses in their educational journey

Student assesment comes in many different forms and the purpose of it is to gather data and make alterations to the course content (within reason) to make sure the students are able to comprehend the information, retain and apply the information and formulate their own new information through critial thinking skills (that will also be assesed.)

Questioning is an integral part of an education. Teaching to memorize is acceptable on a foundational level; somethings you will just have to commit to your memory. However, effective questioning, causes critial thinking attributes to be developed making the student more engaged and creating a better understanding of the content in THEIR method of learning style.

Everyone has a different learning style; including the instructor. Using as many strategies as possible to deliver course content will be suitable to cover most or all of the different learning styles so that each student can receive, retain and applicate the information being taught.

Utlizing mutiple approaches in demonstrations and lectures will ensure to gain the attention and meet learning styles of the majority of the students. Only using one method for both, has its positives but for the ever-changing student, at some point you will lose the engagement of the student. Mutiple approaches in the arsenal is always a plus

The first impression is very important. It sets the pace and tone for the entire course. You can gain or lose your respect in the first meeting, so it is crucial to make that apparent. Engaging and learning the student's name is also very beneficial as they feel a more personalzed touch to their instruction, making them more comfortable.
