While some disabilities are "seen", there are several that are not. Institutions must give reasonable accommodations to all students with documented disabilities.
It is possible to incorporate labs in an asynchronous course. Utilizing different websites that demonstrate a procedure can be effective in educating students. This also allows the student to view the procedure as many times as they wish.
Time management is an important skill for the students to be successful in an asynchronous learning environment. It is also important for the instructor to give feedback and be prompt with grading so the student can self evaluate their own learning.
Using UTube videos to demonstrate a lab allows the student to view it as many times as they wish. Some students need more reinforcement to master a skill. The idea of badges give something for the students to work towards.
With asynchronous learning, students need to take more responsibility for their own learning. While there is flexibility, students need to develop good time management skills and realize that it's their responsibility.
Different types of tests are used depending on the material being tested. Not all types of tests can be used for the same theory. Each type of test will help evaluate a student's knowledge.
Tests and quizzes should evaluate the student's learning. They shouldn't be done "just because". An assessment of student's knowledge of the material will help an instructor in presentation of the material.
Questions from students should never be dismissed. It's likely that more than one student has the same question. If thoughtfully answered, more students will be encouraged to ask questions.
Different learning styles mean different ways of presenting material. An instructor has to be flexible to adapt to all learning styles.
Communication and customer service go hand in hand in the work place. You can't have good customer service without good communication and vice versa. I would like to believe that I have developed both in all my years as an instructor and that my students have learned these by following my example.
