Word!

Hi Adrian:  My name is John Siket and I have taught at SAE New York for nearly twelve years.  Can you imagine my surprise when I found a post about teaching and audio production?!  This is a great post and I will be checking it out from now on.  Cheers mate!

I wonder if there's a book for soft skills, manging emotions, and workplace behaviours? If so, I hope it is short, easy to digest, and has a easy system to remember.  Thanks!

I had a student that was chronically late, didn't take notes or pay attention. On the last day, that student showed up late and then interrupted the class. Consequently, I lost my temper. The class had about 8 students in it. Should I have apologized in front of the others or waited to do it later in private? Should I have apologized to the whole class or the single student? Thanks!

I am really going to try the "pair and share" technique in my next class!  I really like ED112 a bit more than ALL the other courses that I've taken thus far on Max Knowledge.  Why?  Because it is small and concise compared to past courses.  "Read a little, think a lot."

I remember years ago a particular student that had trouble learning.  English was his second language, but I believe that he had some other disability and that was why he had some difficulty learning.  What I did was give him some of my personal time and although it may have helped, but that time could've been spent more effectively had I simply asked that student what specifically they might've needed.  That's one of the things I learned from ED106--just ask, "How can I help you to understand this better?  What has worked for you in the past?"  Thanks.

Yes, after some reflection I was beginning to arrive at the same conclusion. Thanks!

Wow, that sounds like a very proactive approach.  That mindset shows real respect for students.

I teach in a field that is predominately dominated by males. In my classes, the proportion on female students is reflective of the industry--very low. i don't exactly know for sure, but it's probably less than 5%. Should I view or treat them any differently? Should I make extra effort to reach out to them or try and view them equally? Thanks.
Thank-you for your response. I will try and initiate a conversation with the method you're suggesting.
