This module again reiterates the importance of protecting student information and maintaining confidentiality. It also high lighted other acts such as HIPPA and the Solomon act that are directley related to FERPA. It was very interesting to see what information an institution is permitted to list publicly.

I agree with Joyce and Lisa that employees should have regular trainings for new as well as veteran employees. The rules and regulations of FERPA are extensive. It is important that institutions and their employees maintain the confidentiality of student records.

It is important to understand the policies of FERPA, and/or know where to review information before releasing any student information. These compliance rules protect the student's information/privacy as well as the institution that maintains such information/records.

It is extremely important to maintain and protect student information.

Being sensitive to student learning preferences when providing instruction and being flexible with instruction techniques where permissible can assist with students' learning, retention and success.

Understanding that the "mother tongue" for bilingual/multilingual students plays an important role in their successful learning in English. As the instructor it is important to recognize this and also to assist students who may need additional language resources to be successful in your course.

Being sensitive to and respectful of the cultural differences of your students is an important aspect for their learning success. Understand that race is not what you see but how a person identifies.  Have respect for and emrbacing the differences of students so that their educational needs can be met.

It is important not to stereotype students based on own personal beliefs and to remember that they are each individuals with varied experiences. being all inclusive of each student's individuality is important.

It is important to vary teaching styles for maximum student comprehension. It is also important to limit time for concepts to 15-18 min for successful student retention.

This module demonstrated the importance of the course expectations and how it will help students attain their goals. It also established the importance of connecting with students by introducing yourself, giving some of your background and showing your enthusiasm for teaching the course; letting the student know you care about them and their success.
