Cover sheets to help with lab enviroment
I find that giving cover sheet handouts to the students cut down dramatically on having to explain lab assignments over and over. It also is a great place to put any critical information pertaining to the labs that may not already be in their books. I've also heard students help other students by reminding them to use their cover sheets when unsure of some information needed to start or complete a lab assignment.
Hi Anton:
Good idea. I think anytime clearer instructions, examples, or directions on how and what the instructor wants will assit the students in their desire to comply. Essentially, clearer instructions, better conformance to teacher expectations.

this could be uesfull in our cullinary lab classes for new students as they are introduced to new equipment
Hi Kevin:
Often times students are inudated with "reams" of papers, rules and regulations, directions and instructions, etc., etc. Doing something like the colored paper trick is helpful in orgainizing essential information, and I think when we can assist the student become more organized, they'll be better students.

Hey this is a GREAT idea. For my next course, I am going to prepare "cover sheets" for each day's work assignments. For environment's sake, I think I will make these 3 x 5 cards and hand out to each student at the beginning of the day when we do our line-up greeting and tool inspection for readiness.

Hi Mike:
Sometimes simple techniques make the most sense don't they? This idea and many like it take just a little time to plan and maybe a touch of creativity.

I like this idea. I think i'll try it. I get tired of repeating the same info time after time. And I just told them how to do this 5 minutes earlier. So I'll try this and see what happens.
Hi Gail:
Teachers are so creative. This is an example of something quite simple but seems to work for many teachers. Try it and see if it works for you!
