Professional Development Resources
Can you suggest any effective Professional Development Resources for experienced teachers?
Mike,
Get involved with and become a member of the professional organizations in your field. Many of them have professional development programs that they offer. Go to websites that offer instructional strategies. For example there are many elementary, middle school and high school sites that share teaching strategies. Look at these ideas and then make them age appropriate and you will be ready to go. Set goals to attend professional development conferences in your area so you can build on the expertise you already have. The key is to create a plan for yourself and follow it and you will expand your knowledge and expertise each year.

I am an active member of my professional association and attend instructor forums that are offered twice a year. These training sessions also count toward continuing education for the purpose of renewing my professional certifications. Additionally, you may want to look in to some books that focus on educational and instructional methodologies. One in particular is Ken Bain's book, "What the Best College Teachers Do."
Douglas,
Great professional development plan. Also, thank you for the resource referral. I know it will be of help to other instructors.
