Motivation

I find that motivation no matter what industry is a challenge. All People work at different paces and have different things that make them tick. Some people may want money to motivate, some may want just doing the job satisfaction, and some may just need a little attention once and a while. Whatever the motivator treat everyone as an individual and once you find out what makes people tick - then run with that motivation to get that teamwork flowing!

Guy,
You make a very good point about motivation. As learning leaders we need to try our best to find out what the motivating factor is for each student then use that to help keep that individual engaged. As you mention it is a challenge to provide motivation opportunities for our students throughout the duration of our courses.

Most of the time, motivation can be just a simple thank you to let them know that what they do helps the overall performance of the team

Juan,
These simple forms of encouragement and support go a long way in keeping students retained and moving forward in their career development. Keep helping them to see their future.

Motivation is an essential key to learning. Empowerment is essential along with motivation as well. If the student is empowered to learn there exists a greater possibility for positive outcomes. I serve as a positive role model who has a passion for teaching. Many of my students have had minimal success in the academic setting. I know I can make a difference in my classroom through using motivation, empowerment, and a positive attitude.

Diane,
Passion and enthusiasm are two powerful emotions that instructors need to bring to class. You are bringing both with your approach and I know you are impacting the lives of your students on a daily basis and helping them to see their future if they will put in the time and effort.

I look at my own children and what motivates them to get my desired outcome. I look at the individuals adult learner in the same aspect and develop ways to motivate each one of them.

As an English Instructor, I find that no matter what level of education I'm teaching, motivation is a plus! giving good and positive feedbacks on students work, telling them that they can do it, that you (the teacher) is there for them, and just by having different scenarios for the students not to get bored, is motivating enough.

Stephanie,
Right you are about the need for variety and change of pace in the delivery of instruction. This is what will keep them engaged and excited about the content that is being offered. Also, this is a great way for the instructor to be creative in delivering information and helping with skill development.

I love the idea of passion and enthusiasm. So often instructors are concerned with the technical aspects of learning that they forget about the humanistic qualities that are necessary for effective instruction.

Sheniqua,
Right you are. We need to bring both of these elements to the classroom or lab every time we teach. By doing so we will increase the motivation levels of our students and increase their buy in in the course.

I try to motivate them by understanding what arouses
them and feed off of them. that influences my motivation towards them.
